Now as the spring is almost here, it’s time to grow your gift cards. Yes, really grow – it has been made possible with Postcarden – post it, mount it, plant it, water it.

Postcarden is designed and produced by A Studio for Design. Their cards can be easily sent via post with room to write a personal greeting, creating an interactive part of the present.

As for how specifically treat this card, nothing more extraordinary than a daily horticulturist’s work – just don’t forget to water it.

Postcarden comes in three different layouts, all green in the end of the day.

You have a cat? Make the cat be a part of your home interior – Koichi Futatsumata made a design for a coffee table, which would nicely incorporate your pet as a part of it. Now the trick is to make the cat (not sure dogs would work) crawl inside.

These absolutely fabulous cups are a product of Livia Marin. Little could be found on the artist, however this china is an absolutely fantastic piece of art! Maybe not very useful for a tea party, but surely the highlight of home decoration.

Know your germs

Do you know how germs look? Also so that you do not feel revolted when you see them. Luke Jerram makes glass sculptures, which represent our bacteria and viruses we are scared of.

These transparent glass sculptures were created to contemplate the global impact of each disease and to consider how the artificial colouring of scientific imagery affects our understanding of phenomena. Jerram is exploring the tension between the artworks’ beauty and what they represent, their impact on humanity.

To the author’s mind, microbiologists and scientists make us believe that viruses and bacteria are bright colored, however in reality it is not always so.

The sculptures were designed in consultation with virologists from the University of Bristol using a combination of different scientific photographs and models. They were made in collaboration with glassblowers Kim George, Brian Jones and Norman Veitch.

Product design is developing quickly. It’s like when you think, ok, this is it, what more creative than this, can anyone come up with? But they do, and they do it very well. A small selection of outstanding product designs from all over the world.

1. Sleeping bear bag from Eiko Ishizawa – refined Japanese sense of humour.

2. Inner Message ring by Yoon Jungyun – Korean creativity and style

3. For The Moment teardrop glass by same Yoon Jungyun – might not be too comfortable to put on a table, but looks fantastic in hands.

4. Walls Notebook from New York – 80 clean New York city walls – for you to leave a trace.

5. Helen Johannessen from Yoyo Ceramics came up with a Ceramic Notepad idea – product of the UK. Write on, wipe off, use again – very green!

Another session of must-haves here with you. Human creativity is sometimes just amazing – is what we think looking at these ingenious inventions, gadgets, thingies and so on. Like this seemingly wooden key-holder. Looking closer, appears to be a magnet, and looks very stylish too:

Same Amor de Madre invented a special cutting board. It’s called Incanale, and what it basically does is pretty obvious, especially to those of you who love cooking. Who has badmouthed after chopped vegetables drop anywhere but the targeted bowl? huh? very useful invention!

Vauni Globe – This is more than just a fireplace. It’s like a sculpture even when unlit. Just don’t sit in it when it is lit.

Next, pre-chewed pencils from Concentrate. Concentrate is a British studio that design products specifically for school kids. Don’t chew the pencil, it is pre-chewed, just get down to some thinking and who knows what you might come up with.

This time of the year is when everybody consumes cakes, chocolate bars and everything sweet. Look at this cute baby – this is a Chocolate pie chart. Absolutely adorable piece (3.5″ diameter x .75″ high) made of 70% milk, 20% dark and 10% white chocolate.

Sissi Edholm and Lisa Ullenius from Edholm Uilenius created this amazingly beautiful chocolate packaging for the gift shop in Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm.

Finally, a Belgian chocolatier made a 45rpm record out of chocolate. The record “It’s Now Or Never” from Elvis, made entirely out of chocolate, can be played on a real record player. Here you can see a footage of how it has been made (In German).
